Original Bitters

Herba Flora’s Original Bitters is a straightforward combination of gentian and licorice roots. It was created as our first formula to encourage digestive function, support the tissues of the digestive system, and ease the stress and exhaustion that often accompany digestive impairment.

Gentian is a strong bitter herb and very effective in activating the digestive system to optimize the breakdown of food and absorption of nutrients (read more here). Licorice nourishes and soothes the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, which can easily become raw and inflamed with impaired digestion. It also provides critical support to the adrenal glands, easing feelings of nervous tension, irritability, and fatigue. The earthy sweetness of licorice nicely balances the flavor of gentian.

For those who have active gastric or duodenal ulcers, high blood pressure, are pregnant or nursing, we suggest our Gentle Bitters as a more appropriate option.
